Pulling Pots - Out of the Raku Kiln

The fun part.

Using long tongs, especially made for doing Raku, we carefully remove the red-hot pieces from the kiln and place them into the reduction pots.

Once the fire is going strong, we put the lids on to starve the fires of oxygen.

Depending on the size of the pieces, it can take up to an hour for the Raku to cool enough to be handled with leather gloves.

The tongs make hardly noticeable dents in the glaze.
